Sedona - Live at The Bowery Ballroom
Sedona opened for Drugdealer at the Bowery Ballroom on October 2nd, 2025, bringing a stripped down set built around a couple guitars and a simple drum machine backing track - a much different, but refreshing vibe than when I saw her last at Baby’s All Right.
Though I’m not known to be the biggest pop-head, I applaud the “pageant rock” niche she’s carved out in the scene, and her ability to bridge genres and time periods in a way that resonates well with Gen Z (and younger) listeners. I might be aging myself in saying that, but at a moment when music tastes are more expansive than ever, I think it’s great she’s able to tie together the trending currents of 2000s pop/pop-rock nostalgia and americana in a way that doesn’t feel forced.
The set included personal favorites like “Best Kept Secret” and “Domino,” along with two unreleased tracks, “Naughty Girls Need Love Too” and “Hollywood,” and a cover of Rihanna’s 2007 hit, “Umbrella”. I really enjoyed hearing the more pop and rock oriented tracks take on a more organic form, and to my surprise, the overall presentation was similar to how the studio version of “Hollywood” ended up sounding when it was released a few months later.
“Naughty Girls Need Love Too” came off like a horny sea shanty. Its kitschy melody and raunchy lyrics caught the crowd off guard and got a lot of laughs. I’m not sure whether it’ll ever receive an official release, but I think it’s got the kind of humor-forward energy that could easily give it virality.
The Rihanna cover was stripped of its pop production, reworked with a lone acoustic guitar, and ended up being one of the most intimate songs of the set with the whole room singing along word for word.
